The USA is a Beast

Introduction

Who is the beast? (vv1-7, 17-18)

• Comes out of the sea
• 7 blasphemous heads & 10 crowned horns  (v1)
• Leopard with bear claws & a lion's mouth from Daniel 7 (v2)
• The number of his name, the number of a man (vv17-18)
  • Appeared to die, yet lived (v3)
  • Worshiped (v4)
  • Blasphemed (vv5-6)
  • War against church (v7)

What is his mark? (vv11-15, 16-18)

• The second beast (v11)
  • Comes out of land rather than sea (v11)
  • Exercises the authority of the first beast like a representative (vv11-15)
    • Speaks as a dragon (v11)
    • Calls people to worship first beast (vv12, 15)
    • Deceives people and compels them to succumb to his authority (vv13-14)
• The mark (vv16-18)
  • Symbolic or literal?
  • Deuteronomy 6:8

Why does it mean? (vv8-10)

• Kingdom of God vs Kingdom of Man
• Worship (vv8-10, 15)
• Revelation 13 vs Romans 13
• All of Christ for all of life
