Y’all Need the Church — Week 2: In Death and Dying
Texts: Romans 14:7-9; Ephesians 4:11-16

Title: The Church Where We Learn to Die Well
Big Idea: Y’all need the Church because when you face death, you need people who remind you that Jesus has already walked through it and come out the other side.

1 – The Church Teaches Us to Belong in Life and in Death (Rom 14:7-8)
  • Every verb here is plural (we live, we die, we are the Lord’s).
  •
Faith is personal, but never private.

  • That’s why Christians don’t “pass away.” We go home.

2 – The Church Proclaims Christ’s Victory over Death (Rom 14:9)
  • The phrase “to this end” means for this very purpose.
  •
Christ’s resurrection -
He didn’t come to make life a little longer; He came to make death His servant.
  • So when we gather at a Christian funeral, we’re not attending a tragedy

3 – The Church Comforts with Resurrection Hope (1 Thess 4:13-18)
  • The verb “comfort” in verse 18 is in the present imperative, meaning it is an ongoing act of encouragement.

4 – The Church Prepares Us for the Last Enemy (1 Cor 15:50-58)
  • Eph 4:11-16:
The Church’s teaching, fellowship, and ministry are how we grow up “into Him who is the Head.”
