Systematic Theology Week 12: Divine Decrees

Definition (Berkhof):
 The divine decrees are God’s eternal purpose by which He foreordains all things that come to pass.

Key Text: 
Ephesians 1:11.

Why This Matters:
 God’s decrees assure that nothing falls outside His sovereign will.

I. The Nature of God’s Decrees
A. Eternal and Unchangeable: Psalm 33:11 affirms the stability of His counsel.

Discussion: Why does God’s unchanging will comfort believers?
B. Comprehensive: Daniel 4:35. God governs kings and nations.
 Matthew 10:29-30. God’s providence extends to the most minor details.
C. Wise and Holy: 
Romans 11:33. God’s wisdom surpasses human understanding.


II. Specific Aspects of the Decrees
A. Election and Reprobation: Ephesians 1:4–5. God chooses His people in love.
