Biblical Theology - WEEK 11 – Kingdom and Mission: Israel’s Role and Christ’s Fulfillment
Text Focus: Exodus 19:5–6; 2 Samuel 7; Isaiah 49:6; Matthew 28:18–20; 1 Peter 2:9–10
Theme: Israel’s kingdom and mission prefigure the reign of Christ and the church’s global calling, intending to understand how biblical theology links Israel’s purpose to the church’s mission under King Jesus.

I. Israel’s Theocratic Pattern (Exod 19:5-6)
  • “A kingdom of priests and a holy nation.”
  • Israel’s purpose: to display God’s rule.
Lawrence (ch. 6): “Israel’s failure magnifies the necessity of a perfect King.”

II. Promise of a Coming King (2 Sam 7; Isa 9)
  • David’s throne: everlasting.
  • Prophets foretell a righteous Branch (Jer 23:5).
  • Christ fulfills this hope—He rules by serving.

III. The Missionary Dimension (Isa 49:6; Matt 28:18–20)
  • God’s intent is always global: “a light for the nations.”
  • Jesus, the Servant-King, sends His people to the world.
  • The church = new Israel, a kingdom of priests (1 Pet 2:9-10).
