Text: Romans 16:25-27
I. God Establishes You Through the Gospel (v. 25a)
- “Able” = God’s sufficiency, not ours…
- “Establish” = to strengthen, to fix immovably
- Rom 1:11 — Paul longed to strengthen them.
- Rom 5:1–2 — “We have peace with God… we stand in this grace.”
- Rom 14:4 — “The Lord is able to make him stand.”
- God always secures His covenant people (Jer 32:40; Ps 40:2; Jude 24)
II. God Reveals the Mystery of Christ for the Nations (vv. 25b–26a)
- “Mystery” (mystērion) = divine secret, hidden but now revealed (Eph 3:3-6; Col 1:26-27).
- Christ Himself, crucified and risen, uniting Jew and Gentile into one new people.
- Gen 12:3, Isa 49:6, Amos 9:11–12.
III. God Commands the Obedience of Faith (v. 26b)
- “Command” (epitagē) = royal decree, a binding order from the King.
- “Obedience of faith” — the bookends of Romans (1:5 and 16:26).
- Gen 15:6; 22:18: Paul uses Abraham as the model in Rom 4.
- Isaiah 53:1 — Paul quotes it in Rom 10:16; Believing = obeying.
- Mark 1:15 — it’s a command. John 3:36 makes belief and obedience inseparable
- Acts 6:7; 17:30; 2 Thess 1:8; Titus 1:1
- Phil 2:10–11; Rev 14:12
IV. God Saves You for His Glory Forever (v. 27)
- “Only wise” — monō sophō. God alone is wise
- “Glory” (doxa) = weight, splendor, majesty.
- The cross is God’s masterpiece of wisdom (1 Cor 1:24-25).
- All of history finds its end in one refrain: glory to God through Jesus Christ.
Conclusion
- Rejoice — God establishes you.
- Repent and Believe — obey the command of the gospel.
- Return Glory — live God-centered lives now for His eternal glory.
