Sermon Outline 7.6.2025

Text: Romans 12:3-8
Title: Humility, Harmony, and Holy Usefulness
Big Idea: Christ gives different gifts by grace. So, think humbly, belong deeply, and serve boldly.

INTRODUCTION
When you try to live the Christian life in your own strength, on your own terms, or use your gifts to put the spotlight on you, 3 things happen: You overestimate yourself. You undervalue the church. And you misapply the very gifts God gave you to serve it.

I. PRIDE CONFRONTED (v. 3a)
μὴ ὑπερφρονεῖν (“literally no to overthink about oneself or over-value oneself”)
THINK HUMBLE THOUGHTS ABOUT YOURSELF

II. PORTION ASSIGNED (v. 3b)
ἑκάστῳ ὁ θεὸς ἐμέρισεν (“God has assigned”) modifies “measure of faith”
REMEMBER YOUR FAITH IS A GIFT FROM GOD TO BE A GIFT

III. POSITION EXPLAINED (vv. 4–5)
“Members of one another” (ἀλλήλων μέλη) is mutuality, not just unity, but interdependence.
YOU ARE ONE MEMBER IN A MANY-MEMBERED BODY

IV. PURPOSE COMMISSIONED (vv. 6-8)
χαρίσματα (grace gifts) are not self-generated—they flow from χάρις (grace).
Don’t admire your gift. Don’t compare your gift. Don’t hide your gift.
