  • Moved to Gaul (modern France), became Bishop of Lyons.

III. Refuting Gnosticism
  • Belief that salvation comes through secret knowledge (gnosis).
  • Claimed the material world was evil, created by a lesser god (demiurge).
  • Denied Christ’s incarnation and bodily resurrection.
