Sermon Outline 5.11.25

Title: God’s Sovereignty Never Fails

Thesis: God's promise hasn’t failed. His mercy isn’t owed. His election is just. What offends human pride glorifies divine grace.
Text: Romans 9:6–18

I. God’s Word Has Not Failed (Romans 9:6a)
  • The rejection of Christ does not mean God's promises have failed.
  • God distinguishes between outward Israel and true spiritual Israel.
II. God’s People Are Defined by Promise, Not Pedigree (Romans 9:6b–9)
  • Isaac, not Ishmael, was the child of promise.
  • God's redemptive call is selective and effectual.
III. God’s Purposes Are Demonstrated in Election (Romans 9:10–13)
  • Jacob and Esau had the same parents, yet different destinies.
  • Election is not based on works or foreseen faith, but on God’s purpose.
IV. God’s Mercy Is Sovereign, Not Owed (Romans 9:14–18)
  • God has mercy on whom He wills and hardens whom He wills.
  • Mercy is never owed; judgment is never unjust.
Conclusion: Worship the God Who Is God
  • We are not called to figure God out but to worship Him.
  • The scandal is not that God doesn’t choose everyone, but that He chose anyone at all.
