Sermon Outline 12.21.2025
Everything That Has Breath Praise the Lord—Psalm 150—Fourth Sunday of Advent — Peace
I. Where to Praise: Everywhere (v. 1)
II. Why to Praise: God’s Greatness (v. 2)
III. How to Praise: With Everything (vv. 3–5)
IV. Who Should Praise: Everything that Breathes (v. 6)
I. Where to Praise: Everywhere (v. 1)
- Two locations are named, and together they tell the whole story.
- “His sanctuary”—the earthly temple, where God’s people gathered.
- “His mighty heavens”—the celestial temple, where the angels sing.
- When Christ was born, heaven literally joined earth in song. Angels filled the night sky over Bethlehem to announce, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace.”
II. Why to Praise: God’s Greatness (v. 2)
- This verse pairs God’s acts and God’s attributes.
- His “mighty deeds” reveal what He does; His “excellent greatness” reveals who He is.
III. How to Praise: With Everything (vv. 3–5)
- The Psalmist moves from wind instruments (trumpet) to stringed instruments (lute, harp) to percussion (tambourine, cymbals).
- The effect is total inclusion...every category of sound consecrated to God.
IV. Who Should Praise: Everything that Breathes (v. 6)
- "Everything that breathes” echoes Genesis 2:7, when God breathed life into Adam.
- Breath was His gift then; praise is the fitting return now.
